IT Corridor in Hyderabad to have a multi-level flyover by October

According to the latest reports, the IT Corridor in Hyderabad is planned to receive a multi-level flyover by October which will greatly ease traffic around the area.

With the three-kilometre, multi-level, unidirectional flyover at Botanical Garden, crossing Kothaguda Junction and Kondapur Junction, expected to be completed by October, the IT corridor is set to experience increased traffic flow.

It is expected that traffic woes will end at Botanical Garden, Kothaguda and Kondapur junctions and their surroundings once this facility is inaugurated. These three intersections are T-intersections with very little space between them, causing traffic jams during peak hours.

Under Phase III of the State government’s ambitious Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP), the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is building this project in the western part of the city at an estimated cost of Rs 263.09 crore offering long-term solutions to traffic problems.

After passing AMB Cinemas, the multi-level flyover splits into two parts, each with three lanes, before reaching Kothaguda Junction. One part of the flyover crosses Kondapur Junction and ends at Raghavendra Colony C Block arch, while the other part crosses HITEC City and stops before Hitex near the Prestige Ivy League housing society.

For commuters from Kondapur towards Gachibowli, a 470-metre-long and 11-metre-wide unidirectional underpass is in the process of being built near Kothaguda Junction. The underpass extends from Harsha Toyota in Kondapur to Sarath City Capital Mall.

GHMC officials said it wasn’t easy to build the flyover since three religious structures and a graveyard had to be maintained while it was constructed. The utility shifting work is being carried out by the Transmission Corporation of Telangana Limited (TSTRANSCO) near the flyover, a GHMC official said.

The flyover was to be completed by June this year, but a property owner approached the court over a land acquisition issue. In addition, the Forest Department had to acquire land as well.
