Japan Extends Quarantine Period for India and Other Countries Amidst Fourth Wave of Covid 19

With the rising cases of Covid 19, Japan has increased the number of days for the quarantine period for the inbound travellers.

Inbound Travellers Will Quarantine For Longer Periods In Japan

As per the latest reports, Japan has increased the quarantine period for some countries. It includes India, Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan or Sri Lanka. The quarantine period has been extended from six to ten days.

The move will come into effect from Friday as Japan continues to grapple with the fourth wave of the Covid 19. This has further led to mounting concerns over the strongly transmittable variant which was first detected in India.

Talking to the press, Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato said that there is a strong uneasy feeling amongst the Japanese people regarding the Coronavirus variants. Keeping the safety of the people in mind, they have decided to further tighten the border controls.

Travellers who have travelled to any of the six regions (mentioned above) will be subjected to a mandatory 10 day quarantine period. They will be spending the same in a designated facility and during their quarantine period, they will undergo three Covid 19 tests.

Kazakhstan or Tunisia Travellers Will Have Three Days Quarantine Period

The new measure will mainly affect the Japanese citizens who travelled to any of the six countries (mentioned above) as the government banned entry to all foreign nationals. Furthermore, travellers from Kazakhstan or Tunisia will also have to go through a mandatory quarantine for three days.

Talking to the media, Japan Health Minister Norihisa Tamura said that they are considering extending the current Covid 19 state of emergency for Tokyo, Osaka and other seven states.

This comes after the emergency period is set to expire by the end of this month and the number of daily infections and variant cases have not shown any drop.
