Job Postings Show Significant Decline Since Lockdown 2020

While India continues to fight against the Covid 19 amidst the state lockdowns, many industries have started to show a decline in job postings.

Employee Index Shows Decline 

As per the latest reports, the employment index reported by the online job search portal, Monster noted a decline in the job postings from April last year to March this year. The decline has dropped by 3 percent.

Overall job postings have declined by 4 percent as of April this year. And offerings for entry-level roles have been reduced by 5 percent (month-on-month). It includes decline from industries like travel and tourism, engineering, cement, iron/steel, construction, etc.

Despite the decline in job postings, some industries have continued to hold their posting strong in some cities. Industries like advertising, public relations (PR), market research especially in Chennai and Hyderabad have noted more than 50 percent year-on-year growth.

At the same time, banking, financial services, and insurance in Kolkata saw a month-on-month growth of 26 percent. But other services and opportunities remained neutral.

Job offerings in Bengaluru saw 28 percent growth along with Hyderabad at 23 percent and Chennai at 16 percent as compared to the previous year.

Meanwhile, top management, senior-level, and intermediate level also showed significant growth at 36 percent, 10 percent, and 13 percent respectively, in April as compared to April 2020.

Overall Job Postings Remain Grim For Some Metro Cities 

Following the report, the CEO of Monster.com released a statement and said that the second wave of Covid 19 and the intensity of lockdowns across the country have impacted the hiring activities. But in some cities like Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru indicate positive growth.

The report also noted that there has been a positive uptick in the Government/PSU/defense and saw a growth of 25 percent in job postings in Delhi/NCR. But the overall situation is still bleak in some of the metropolitan cities. Delhi showed a decline by -1 percent and Mumbai by -2 percent during the same period.

But job offerings for Senior Management and Software, Hardware, and Telecom services remained neutral.
