Justin Trudeau Praises Narendra Modi For Covid Vaccine Diplomacy

Justin Trudeau, Canada Prime Minister recently spoke to India PM Narendra Modi regarding the Covid 19 vaccine. As per the official statement released from the Canadian Prime Minister’s official website, he called PM Modi to appreciate him for his efforts in curbing the pandemic.

Canadian PM Calls Narendra Modi For Vaccine Assistance

As per the official statement, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called India Prime Minister Narendra Modi to appreciate his efforts in helping the world with the pandemic. He reportedly requested PM Modi for Covid 19 vaccines for Canada. At the same time, he also said that if the world is able to curb the Coronavirus pandemic, it will be because of India and their help.

Trudeau further said that it is because of India’s “tremendous pharmaceutical capacity” that they gifted the Covid 19 vaccines to 20 nations across the world. In this significant sharing capacity with the rest of the world, he also appreciated Narendra Modi’s leadership throughout the project and helping the world under vaccine diplomacy.

Narendra Modi on his part thanked him for the gesture and sentiments. He also assured Trudeau that India would do its best to support Canada with the Covid 19 vaccine and other efforts.

During the call, both Modi and Trudeau discussed some shared opinions on behalf of their respective nations regarding some important geo-political issues. They both agreed to closely work together to fight global challenges like climate changes and the economic derailment during the Covid 19 and the following lockdown.

Both leaders also looked forward to meeting each other this year on various international occasions and continuing discussions of mutual interest.

India Gifts Covid-19 Vaccines To Nations Across The World

In the past few months, India has shared the covid 19 vaccine doses to various countries across the world. As per reports, India so far has gifted over 5.5 million vaccine doses to neighbour countries and some extended neighbour countries.

Reports suggest that Sri Lanka received 5,00,000 doses and Bahrain received 1,00,000 doses. Whereas Bhutan received 1.5 lakh doses and Maldives received 1 lakh doses. Meanwhile, Nepal and Bangladesh received 10 lakh and 20 lakh doses of Covid vaccine respectively. India also gifted Covid vaccines to Barbados recently.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said that the supplies of Covid 19 doses is based on the requests made by the respective countries.

Recently, Afghanistan received the first batch of Covid 19 vaccines gifted by India. The government described the gesture as a “strong sign of generosity and sincere corporation”. India has gifted 500,000 Covid 19 vaccines to Afghanistan.

Covid vaccines have also been sold commercially to different countries. As per reports, Brazil, Morocco and Bangladesh will also be buying approximately 30 million vaccine doses from India.

Currently, the vaccine doses in India are being given to the healthcare and frontline workers which accounts for 3 crores of people. Within a few weeks, the covid 19 vaccine will be made available for the people of 50 years and above.
