Kanti Velugu proves to be blessing for unemployed youth

The ongoing Kanti Velugu scheme is proving to be a blessing for unemployed youth and youngsters from economically weaker sections who are preparing for Group exams and have poor vision.

A visit to the City Central Library Ashok Nagar brought to light the difficulties that students face due to poor vision. When asked, V Venkatesh Naik of Mahboobnagar district’s remote tribal hamlet said he had a problem with tears rolling from his eyes while studying. He couldn’t afford to see a private doctor for his short sight because he came from a poor agricultural family. His parents recently informed him that the Kanti Velugu camp was being held in his village.

He arrived in his village and went to the camp, where the doctors tested him and gave him free reading glasses the same day.

With the assistance of reading glasses, his problem of tears rolling from his eyes was eased, and he is now able to concentrate on his studies. Venkatesh Naik thanked the Chief Minister for launching the Kanti Velugu program, which not only provided him with eyesight but also inspired him to strive for a better life for himself.

Venkatesh Naik is not the only state resident who has benefited from the Kanti Velugu scheme. Thousands of students attending colleges and taking competitive exams and who were suffering from problem of poor vision and other sight related disorders are being treated by the government at free of cost at the Kanti Velugu centres across the State.

Almost half of those who visit the Kanti Velugu camps have vision problems. The majority of elderly people are suffering from cataract and have been referred to major hospitals. Since January 19, the Kanti Velugu program has been running in PHCs across the state. It has been discovered that one-half of those visiting the camps have vision problems.
