Karnataka Resident Doctors Call For Indefinite Strike Over Allowance Delays, Fees Hike

As per the latest reports, the Karnataka resident doctors and interns have boycotted all services at the Out-Patient Department and other services across all the government medical colleges in the State on Monday. They have demanded immediate release of Covid risk allowances along with the fulfillment of other demands.

The association has also requested the restructuring of academic fees. They allege that the Karnataka government has not released the Covid risk allowance in the past six months after giving assurance. Following this, they are going on an indefinite strike.

Academic Fee Hiked

The government had previously announced an allowance of Rs 10,000 every month from April 2021 for all the resident doctors. However, the Association informed that they have not only received the amount for over a year but also the administration have shown negligence towards the service of frontline workers amidst the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the academic fees has also been hiked from Rs 30,000 to Rs 1,20,000. During the pandemic, the students were asked to pay full amount without any concession. To oppose the same, the resident doctors staged a protest on November 9. The protest was taken aback after the Health Minister assured that the demands would be fulfilled within 10 days.
