Kavitha takes aim at Sitharaman, says no PM ever had pictures at ration shops

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MLC K Kavitha said on Wednesday that pictures of the Prime Minister were never displayed outside ration shops. Her comments are in reference to Nirmala Sitharaman’s ongoing demand for Prime Minister Modi’s flexi boards to be displayed outside shops.

“The union finance minister visited Telangana. Our guests are always welcome, so it’s great that she came. However, she went to a ration shop and argued with the collector about the Prime Minister’s pictures not being displayed,” said the MLC. In Nizamabad, she was addressing a crowd alongside Nizamabad Urban MLA Ganesh Gupta following the distribution of Aasra pensions.

Prime Ministers’ pictures have never been displayed outside PDS shops in the country’s history. Nehru’s time, Manmohan Singh’s time, or even Vajpayee’s time, no one had their pictures displayed, she said.

In response, she said: “Sitharaman ji, we will certainly post the Prime Minister’s pictures. These will be displayed on gas cylinders, urea packets, petrol stations, and oil and dal packets. We will put up pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi wherever costs are rising,” she said.

During her visit to Telangana, Sitharaman had controversially demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s images be displayed outside PDS centers.

She was quick to be criticized by TRS leaders, with state finance minister Harish Rao calling her demand ‘laughable.’

According to Sitharaman, there was no accountability previously. A scheme would be designed so that the Centre pays 60% and the state pays 40%. State governments would not pay their share and would demand more money from the central government. Now that the Modi government has digitized everything, taxpayers’ money is not wasted. Is it not possible to ask for credit where credit is due, she further said.
