Kothur Municipal Council to make a fresh start with elections soon

Not more than six months after coming into existence the newly formed Municipal Council of Kothur is going to face elections for the first time in all the 12 wards to which the process of preparation of electoral rolls have almost completed.

 

Municipal Council Kothur was formed in the year 2020 by merging Kothur and Thimmapur gram panchayats after they acquired urban characteristics.

Now after the merger the Municipal Council of Kothur embarked on a journey of a sovereign municipality that geographically consists of a total 12 wards which are going to face the elections for the first time after a new council comes into being.

Though the overall population of Kothu Municipal council stands to 13,964, there are a total 8,136 voters in all the 12 wards. Out of the above number of voters 4128 are males and 4006 are female who would decide the fate of the candidates of different parties preparing to seek mandate in the proposed elections.

As per the official record the Ward No.1 carries a total 701 voters. Similarly, Ward No. 2 has 663 voters, Ward No. 3 has 730 voters, Ward No. 4 has 662 voters, Ward No.5 has 655 voters, Ward No. 6 has 650 voters, Ward No. 7 has 668 voters, Ward No. 8 has 688 voters, Ward No.9 has 697 voters, Ward No. 10 has 689 voters, Ward No. 11 has 709 voters and Ward No. 12 has 64 voters.

According to officials, a total 12 polling stations have been formed for all the 8,136 voters in all the 12 wards going for hustings and the formal notification would be issued anytime soon after 13th April.

Kothur and Thimmapur stand close to each other as knitting neighborhoods which are predominantly a part of Rangareddy District. The primary source of livelihood of these two areas is largely based on agriculture as both of them are also known for vegetable hut where the green leaves directly mark into city markets.

However, the real estate boom didn’t spare even this part of the area where sprawling ventures by and large overpowered the agrarian activity. Another much argued over and contentious issue is the imposition of GO.111 which was enforced on most of the areas from Shamshabad to Kothur owing to their close proximities with the historic water bodies such as Himayath Sagar and Osman Sagar.
