KTR arrives in New Delhi ahead of ED’s questioning of Kavitha

BRS working president and Minister KT Rama Rao arrived in New Delhi on Friday at the residence of his father and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.

Kavitha is scheduled to be questioned by the investigation agency on Saturday. She arrived in the national capital on March 8, just hours after the ED summoned her for questioning.

Earlier on Friday, Kavitha began a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in the national capital, demanding that the Women’s Reservation Bill be introduced in the current Budget session of Parliament.

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury was also present at the protest.

The Jantar Mantar sit-in dharna was attended by opposition parties and women’s organisations from across India who supported the proposed Women’s Reservation Bill.

Addressing a gathering, Kavitha stated that this Bill will aid in the nation’s development. She urged the central government to bring the Bill before Parliament.

“Women’s Reservation Bill is important and we need to table it soon. I promise all women this protest will not stop until the Bill is introduced. This Bill will help in the development of the nation. I request the BJP-led central government to introduce this Bill in Parliament,” she said.

She also expressed gratitude to the BRS leaders and cadre for their support of her protest. “Empowering women in the legislative discourse cannot be demanded, it must be guaranteed by the government. I thank BRS leaders and cadre for extending their support to this protest,” the Telangana leader said in a tweet.

On March 8, the BRS slammed the Centre after the ED summoned Kavitha in connection with its ongoing investigation into the Delhi excise policy case, claiming that the central investigation agencies had become an extension arm of the BJP.

Referring to the summons as “politically motivated,” BRS leader Ravula Sridhar Reddy stated that, aside from the ED and the BJP, no one truly understands the case filed in connection with the new-withdrawn new Delhi excise policy.
