KTR directs HMDA, TSPCB to stop construction activity if builders found violating norms

Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao has directed the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and the Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) to conduct joint inspections and halt construction if builders were discovered violating norms.

The Minister also directed GHMC officials to investigate similar irregularities in their jurisdiction and MA&UD Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar to ensure compliance.

The instructions were issued after a Twitter user complained to the Minister about hardships caused by dust from construction sites in Kokapet because builders were not following proper procedures. He also urged the Minister to protect the Gandipet and Kokapet areas from pollution caused by construction negligence.

State govt to take up Metro Phase II

KT Rama Rao stated that the state government would proceed with the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro project regardless of whether the Union government could extend its support for the project.

Speaking at a programme following the inauguration of the Shilpa-layout flyover here on Friday, Minister KT Rama Rao stated that the state government was committed to taking up the second phase of the Metro project and completing it as the first phase of the Metro project was not cooperated by the union government.

“In the second phase of Metro project, two routes were proposed from Lakdikapul to BHEL (26 km) and Nagole to LB Nagar (5km). Apart from this, another route from Airport to Mindspace (32 km) will also be taken up. As you know the revenue has come down to the State government due to Carona pandemic. In addition to this, the Union government is denying to extend the support for the Telangana State. Due to these two factors, we are unable to take up the Metro Phase II project as per the schedule. But, we will take up this project at any cost and will finish it,” KTR stated.

The Minister also stated that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has already directed finance department officials to release Rs. 200 crores for MMTS expansion in Hyderabad.
