KTR responds to trolls claiming inaction in Hyderabad rape case

Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao responded to “silly trolls” who are claiming inaction in the Jubilee Hills rape case in Hyderabad.

He said: To the silly trolls who indulge in whataboutery & question Telangana Govt’s action in the recent rape case in Hyderabad – the Rapists were arrested swiftly & sent to jail. The High Court granted them bail after 45 days. Our fight will continue till these rapists are punished as per the law.

Asserting that loopholes in the Juvenile Justice Act, IPC, and CrPC had resulted in the rapists getting out on bail in the Jubilee Hills rape case, the minister added: “That’s why I’m demanding that these acts be amended so rapists do not get bail & are kept in jail until they die if they are convicted. Life imprisonment in the truest sense.”

Earlier, KTR criticized the release of 11 men sentenced to life in prison for Bilkis Bano gang rape and the murder of seven of her family members during the Gujarat riots in 2002.

Our nation’s collective conscience is blotted by this, he said. Upon seeing the convicts being welcomed with sweets and garlands, KTR tweeted, “What happened to Bilkis Bano can happen to anybody of us tomorrow.”

The gang rape of a 16-year-old girl in Hyderabad sparked outrage across the country. On May 28, six people, including five juveniles, allegedly gang raped her after abducting her from a high-profile pub. A 600-page charge sheet was submitted by the police last month.

Five of the six accused in the Jubilee Hills rape case were released on bail last month. After 61 days in jail, Saduddin Malik, who was not a minor, was also released on bail in early August. Upon completion of the police investigation and filing of the charge sheet, Malik was entitled to bail, according to his lawyer.
