KTR stresses the need to create more awareness among boys to respect girls

Industries Minister KT Rama Rao stressed the importance of creating more awareness among young boys to respect girls and women, failing which would be a great disservice to both girls and boys. This would also contribute significantly to the development of a society that values both men and women equally.

The Minister emphasised the importance of holding the gender sensitivity course, which the Education Department introduced into the high school curriculum. This would aid in sensitising children, and because results cannot be obtained overnight, he stated that it must be a continuous effort.

Speaking at a program to felicitate women in journalism here on Tuesday, the Minister said the success of women in all walks of life should be celebrated. This should not be confined to one day in a year but it should be done throughout the year, he said.

The Minister urged the media to place a greater emphasis on reporting positive stories about social responsibility. When any incident or crime occurs involving a woman, the news was being projected as if those in government were insensitive, he said.

“This is where media, especially women journalists, play a crucial role in creating awareness on gender sensitivity and prevention of atrocities against women,” said Rama Rao.

He also stated that We-Hub would host a two-day Women in Journalism Leadership Accelerator Programme in 2023. He believes it would be beneficial to all enthusiastic and aspiring female journalists who want to learn new trends in the field and excel at the national and international levels.

In a lighter vein, the Minister mentioned the mosquito problem and foul smell at Hussain Sagar had considerably come down. Therefore, People’s Plaza was chosen as the venue for the event, and this would prompt journalists to file a few reports on the commendable job done by the government in addressing the menace at Hussain Sagar.
