Lok Sabha Speaker Calls All-Party Meeting Ahead of “Stormy” Monsoon Session of Parliament

With the Monsoon Session of Parliament coming soon, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has called an all-party meeting for all the floor leaders on July 18.
Opposition Expected To Corner Government Over Fuel Prices And Second Wave of Covid 19
As per the latest reports, the agenda for the all-party meeting is to discuss the issues before the beginning of the Monsoon Session of Parliament. The meeting is likely to begin at 11 am on July 18. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi will also interact with the leaders and take their views before the Monsoon session starts on July 19.
The all-party meeting has been called a day before the Monsoon session which is scheduled from July 19 and August 13. It is the first session after the Second Wave of the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic.
At the same time, the meeting is said to be crucial as the session is expected to be stormy. Reports suggest that the opposition is ready with a strategy to corner the government over multiple issues including the rising fuel prices and the infrastructure shortcomings during the second wave of Covid 19.
Meanwhile, BJP leaders and the Union Ministers including party President J.P Nadda, Amit Shah, and Rajnath Singh, conducted a meeting recently to discuss the matters related to the upcoming Monsoon Session. The agenda was to set the party’s strategy to counter the opposition.
Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan, Bhupender Yadav and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Ministers of State Arjun Ram Meghwal and V. Muraleedharan, among others, were present in the meeting. Besides them, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi also attended the meet.
Monsoon Session To Take Place With Covid 19 Protocols
The Monsoon Session of Parliament comes after the Winter Session of 2020 was completely skipped because of the pandemic. However, there is a high rate of vaccination amongst the lawmakers and the Parliament staff that may lead to longer Parliament Session and higher productivity.
Following this, sources suggest that Monsoon Session will accommodate the MPs on a social distancing basis along with all the necessary protocols and safety arrangements.
