Madhya Pradesh Government All Set To Make Indore “Beggar Free”

The Madhya Pradesh government recently made headlines after they announced that they will work towards making Indore a “beggar-free city”. Indore is said to be the business capital of Madhya Pradesh.

Indore Gets Ready To Initiate Beggars Rehabilitation Programme

As per the latest reports, the Indore District Magistrate Manish Singh conducted a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the rehabilitation of the homeless people around the city. Along with being able to rehabilitate the ‘beggars’ around the city with how the netizens can contribute to the same.

In the meeting, the District Magistrate said that they are planning to create a Beggar Rehabilitation Centre with proper arrangements to rehabilitate the beggars and the homeless. The centre will include basic facilities like health check-up, food, water supply, clothes, etc. He said that under the Beggars Rehabilitation Programme they aim to rescue and protect the people from falling victim to the “begging rackets” across the state.

At the same time, the District Magistrate is also seeking solutions and suggestions from various Non-Government Organizations across the state to make the campaign a success. In the meeting, he said that the campaign for make Indore a “beggar-free city” can only be successful if the common public assists the officials for the same. And this also includes various voluntary organizations who would be willing to join hands with the government to make the campaign successful.

Indore Accused Of “Dumping” People Outside City

Indore has received the award for being the cleanest city for four consecutive years. However, the city came under a strict radar after some videos posted online. The videos posted showed some of the alleged Municipal Workers were taking the homeless and eldery people outside the city.

While it is not confirmed but it is believed that the people who were being taken in trucks were picked from within the city or by highway sides. Villagers in the Kshipra area strongly opposed to the decision and forced the officials to take them back. They further objected on the official’s decision to move the elderly in freezing cold.

Videos of the incident (probably shot by the locals) surfaced online and were widely shared. It showed the municipal team (alleged) trying to take the homeless people off the truck parked around the highway. One of the videos showed an old and frail woman who was wrapped in rags and was barely able to sit properly and was being supported by the villagers. The villagers were seen arguing with the Municipal workers for displacing the people.

Another video showed a man trying to explain that the Municipal workers reportedly gathered people from the city and then tried to “dump” them around the highway sides with their belongings.
