Majority of Afghanistan still under the control of Taliban

In the past few years, Afghanistan has been under the attacks of Taliban across the state. As per a survey conducted by Afghan Media, the reports revealed that at least fifty-two percent of the country is under the control of Taliban. And the Kabul Government only controls forty nine percent of the Afghanistan territory.

Afghanistan Security Advisor Rejects Claims

As per the survey conducted between November 2020 and February 2021, the Afghanistan news channel, the Pajhwok Afghan News said that the fifty nine percent of the whole area is under the government.

The survey reports that the Taliban controls 337,000 square kms of the Afghanistan soil and the Afghanistan government controls 297,000 kms. However, around 18,000 square meters of the Afghan land is under the influence of any of the parties.

The findings further revealed that around 27 districts are under the Taliban control and 64 districts are under the Afghanistan government. And the rest of 297 districts are under the control of both the Taliban and Afghanistan government.

However, Taliban claims that they have over 70 percent control of the Afghan land under their influence. But the claims were rejected by the National Security Advisor Hamdullah Mohib. He said in a weekly briefing last Saturday, that even though the Taliban claims to have 70 percent of the land under their influence. They still go to Quetta (in Pakistan) to conduct their meetings about how to kill the Afghanistan citizens. He said that they plan to destroy the gains of the Afghan government and destroy their infrastructures.

Taliban Kills Dozens In Afghanistan

In a recent wave of attacks and violence across Afghanistan, the Taliban has reportedly killed dozens. The defence ministry said that four army soldiers were killed during the attacks at the checkpoints in Kunduz province. Along with them fifteen taliban fighters were killed and twelve were severely wounded. However, not many details were given out or could be verified because the area of Kunduz is restricted for journalists. Furthermore, the Taliban holds most of the province’s rural areas.

But another provincial council member gave a much higher death toll in the attack. He said that at least 25 people from the security forces were killed in the attack. Later, Taliban said that the insurgents were behind the attacks as they were able to get their weapons from checkpoints.

Provincial governor said that apart from the citizens, a government car was also set to blast.

In the past few months, the Taliban has taken responsibility for various attacks across the state. They took responsibility for the attacks on US base in December last year. But no casualties were reported.
