Marri says Congress will boycott National Voters Day Program

Hyderabad: Senior congress Leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy on Wednesday said that the party was boycotting the national voters day program being held by election commission of India (ECI) on January 25,2019. He also said that the party would stage a massive dharna against the arbitrary removal of eligible Voters by the election commission in the recent assembly elections.

Addressing media persons here, Reddy said that senior party leaders like TPCC President N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, K. Jana Reddy, Mohammad Ali Shabbir, DK Aruna, A. Revanth Reddy , CPI state Secretary Chada Venkat Reddy,  TDP state president L. Ramana and TJS President Prof. kodandaram would take part in the dharna program. Reacting aggressively to the statement of chief electoral officer Rajat Kumar whether the people would travel in bullock carts in case of tampering of planes, Reddy asked Rajat if the US was using bullock carts instead of planes. He said that the elections were being held in the US on ballot paper. Reddy also claimed that Japan, which introduced the EVMs to the world was also now using the ballot paper to hold the elections. Commenting on the appointment of Priyanka Gandhi as the general secretary of the party, he said that the formal entry of Priyanka Gandhi would help the party win the next Lok Sabha elections.(NSS)
