Mayor inaugurates Intensive Cleanliness Drive

Hyderabad: GHMC Mayor Dr Bonthu Rammohan today inaugurated Intensive Cleanliness Drive & IEC Campaign to improve sanitation in Gaddiannaram Ward here today.

The cleanliness drive was to keep the particular ward with all facilities like filling of potholes, footpath, street lighting, cleaning nalas, lifting of garbage, C&D waste, spraying and fogging operations, removal of unauthorized flexes, banners, taking up engineering repair works, intensive sweeping and so on.

Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said for one crore population nearly 20,000 sanitation workers were striving day and night to keep the city clean. He said some people were throwing garbage at open places instead of handing over it to Swachh Autoworker to avoid payment of Rs 50 monthly charges. This was evident from observing that garbage was piling up at open places and also at dust bins daily. To control the menace, the GHMC is proposing to keep CC cameras at garbage vulnerable points to levy penalties and punishment.
He also appealed to the citizens to co-operate with the GHMC in keeping the city clean like “we keep our houses and establishments neat and clean. It is also our responsibility to keep our surroundings clean. The Mayor said apartments and colony people should keep the garbage of all residents at one particular place so that Swachh Autoworker can lift the garbage from single point instead of
collecting it from each household thereby save time and enables to cover more area”.

MLA  Sudheer Reddy, said due to lack of coordination with the wings, duplication of work was more such as after desilting of nalas, repair of road works and cleaning of drainage the waste material was being left unlifted and after some time the same material comes into nalas and drains thereby wasting manpower and money. He requested the citizens not to repeat such mistakes while executing other works in the future.

Special Commissioner for Sanitation Sujatha Gupta said the GHMC was taking up 360-degree angle work of a particular ward by coordinating with all wings of GHMC like engineering wing, sanitation, electrical, entomology and so on. She also said apart from the regular staff, additional staff deployed from all wings should make it a model ward in L.B.Nagar Zone and the same program will be taken up in all other wards in the zone.

Later, the Mayor, MLA, Spl Commissioner, Corporators, Zonal Commissioner inaugurated the IEC campaign pamphlets.  Zonal Commissioner Upendra Reddy, Deputy Commissioners  Vijay Krishna, Shailaja, B Krishna Shekar, Maruti Diwakar, H. Krishnaiah and AMOHs of  L.B.Nagar division participated in the program.
