More jobs and lower fees lure Indians to study abroad

Despite the fact that several institutions such as IIM, IIT, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, and others provide an excellent education in the country, many of the students travels abroad to further their education.

The Media met with a few students to find out why the young generation wants to study abroad rather than in India.

While many mentioned cutthroat competition for a seat, high fees, and caste-based reservations as barriers to choosing international universities, a few also listed quality education and more career chances in foreign countries as reasons.

According to Nirupama, general secretary of the Telangana Private Teachers’ Forum, “there are approximately 542 recognised medical institutions, with each college having 100-250 under-graduate seats.” And, of these seats, 50% are allocated for STs, SCs, and OBCs. As a result, the prospects of general category students obtaining a seat are significantly reduced.” “First and foremost, access to higher education and jobs for students in the country is limited,” said Vishweshwar Rao, director of St Joseph Degree College. Only 30% of students enrolled in universities and colleges are between the ages of 18 and 24. In other nations, such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada, 90-95 percent of students attend their home universities.

More colleges and universities are needed to increase the quality of Indian education. We have roughly 1,000 universities, but the United States has around 4,000.” “Education in the country does not coincide with technological advancements or infrastructure development. With the use of technology, the teaching approach should be altered as well He continued. “Second, we need additional higher educational institutions to provide opportunity to everyone, regardless of their concerns.” There is also a need to establish common schools. “We need a common school instead of Gurukul, government, Navodaya, national, and foreign schools,” he proposed. An MBBS student studying in the US said, on the condition of anonymity, “With few medical seats in India and rigorous competition, individuals who miss out on a seat by a few marks tend to explore for additional possibilities elsewhere.” The primary reasons students choose to study abroad are the lower costs and greater educational quality.

MBBS in India would cost roughly Rs 75 lakh to 1 crore, whereas my full six-year course in the US costs only Rs 35 lakh to 40 lakh.” “The primary issue is that private institutions in India charge roughly Rs 80 lakh to 1 crore for the medicine course, whereas in Ukraine, the complete course costs only Rs 35 to 40 lakh,” said an MBBS student in Ukraine.
