Municipal authorities prepare to demolish Secunderabad building gutted in fire

Municipal authorities in Hyderabad are preparing to demolish the six-story commercial building that was gutted by a massive fire last week, while rescue workers have yet to locate the remains of two missing people.

Nearly a week after the fire, rescue workers were still searching for the remains of the missing people in the massive rubble.

On January 21, the skeletal remains of one person were discovered and preserved at Gandhi Hospital for DNA analysis.

Three workers Waseem, Zaheer and Junaid were reported missing after a massive fire broke out in the building. According to some survivors, the three people went to collect their belongings but were trapped.

On January 19, a massive fire broke out in the building housing the garment store at Nallagutta on Minister Road in Secunderabad.

Two fire service officers were injured while attempting to put out the fire, which raged for nearly two days.

The structural strength of the building has been severely weakened as a result of the fire. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has started the demolition process after experts recommended it.

The municipal body has called for bids to demolish the building. It issued an emergency tender notice with a deadline of Wednesday to submit bids.

The GHMC wants the interested party to use cutting-edge technology to demolish the structure in order to avoid collateral damage to neighbouring structures.

The tender value has been set at Rs 33.86 lakh for the demolition of a 1,890 square metre structure, the transportation of debris, and the implementation of safety precautions.

According to officials, the GHMC will charge the owner with the cost of demolition. The owner had built two upper floors without permission, and there was no firefighting equipment inside.

Telangana Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali met with officials from the Telangana Fire Services department and home secretary Jitendar to discuss recent fire mishaps in the city. The meeting was attended by Director General (fire) Y Nagi Reddy, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) enforcement director Dr Vishwajit K and other officials

It has been learned that officials brief the Home Minister on the various violations that have occurred in the buildings where cellars were used as godowns instead for parking, resulting in fire accidents.
