Nation Should Stand With 62 Crore Farmers: Congress

The Congress on Friday made an appeal to the individuals to join the farmers’ unrest and oppose the Farm Bills, which have been passed by the Parliament.

Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala stated: Nation should stand with 62 crore farmers who are protesting against the draconian law.

On Thursday, the Congress upheld the “Bharat Bandh” call given by farmer groups for Friday, saying a great many party workers remain in solidarity with the farmers’ cause and will partake in their dharnas.

RandeepSurjewala said that while farmers and farm workers fill the stomachs of citizens with their hard work, the Modi government is attacking them and their fields.

He asserted that the Prime Minister has done this to help the crony capitalists, and that he does not care for the poor people.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said in a tweet: This is to make farmers slaves and the farmers will become laborers in their fields and neither they will get the MSP nor respect.

Anil Chaudhary, Delhi Congress chief, said the party workers in Delhi will dispatch an arrangement to increase the voice of farmers and farmworkers from Parliament and panchayats. He said workers will take this matter to the streets against the farm bills.

While cutting over the party lines, day long state-wide rallies by farmers in Haryana and  Punjab started on Friday morning.

A heavy police force has been dispatched in both the states to manage any untoward circumstance.

The shopkeepers too in a large portion of the major towns in both the states shut their shops communicating solidarity with the farmers.

In the first-of-its-kind display of solidarity, 31 farmer groups in Punjab declared a joint protest.

A few trains have been suspended after Thursday as farmers started a three day ‘rail roko'(stop rail) campaign against the Bills.

The Ferozepur Railway division chose to suspend the activity of special trains till September 26 taking into account the wellbeing of travellers, a rail official informed IANS.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has spoken out to all political parties to transcend petty considerations and please join one stage to battle unitedly against the treacherous Bills that would completely devastate the state’s farmers.
