No better place of preparation for World Cup than Australia: Graham

Adelaide. World No. 5 India takes on No. 1 Australia in a five-match series starting  in Adelaide, which is being termed as a blockbuster series between the powerhouses of international hockey. The two teams have faced each other in their recent appearances and twice since 2020. At the Tokyo Olympic Games, India won a historic bronze medal and Australia won a silver medal.
They also met in the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games final where Australia won the gold medal. On the sidelines of the series, India’s chief coach Graham Reid said there is no better place to prepare for the World Cup than Australia. Reid added during the pre-match press conference in Adelaide that Australia’s style of play is different from India’s. The best thing about this series is that both teams get to learn about different skills.

Regarding the proposed series against India, Australian head coach Colin Beach said that this series against the visiting team is very important for us for the World Cup in January 2023. It is great that India is here. We love playing against them and it will be a great match for us.

With the FIH Men’s World Cup 2023 in Bhubaneswar Rourkela less than 50 days away, Captain Harmanpreet Singh highlighted that every match against Australia will be crucial in their preparations for the mega event at home. This series is really important for us. When you are preparing for a mega event like the World Cup, it is always good to play against the best teams of the game.
He expressed his excitement to play in Adelaide. It’s great to be back in Australia after couple of years. Due to covid, we couldn’t travel here, there are a lot of passionate Indian hockey fans and we always love to play in front of them . Captian is very confident that his team play its best againt no1 team.
