No respite from cold in Hyderabad; IMD issues yellow alert

With frigid air sweeping through Hyderabad, temperatures have dropped significantly to the lowest. Many parts of the city are experiencing minimum temperatures of 15 degrees Celsius or lower, and the cold spell is not expected to end until the weekend.

On Thursday, the India Meteorological Department – Hyderabad (IMD-H) issued a yellow-coded warning for the city. With clear skies and cold winds blowing across the state capital, the temperature is expected to drop. During the morning hours, haze or mist is expected to prevail.

According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), the city’s average minimum temperature in November is 19.3 degrees Celsius. However, the temperature has been gradually dropping over the last few days, settling below normal.

According to Met Department officials, the minimum temperature on Thursday will remain between 11 and 15 degrees Celsius.

The temperature in Malkajgiri has dropped to 13.3 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours, with Rajendranagar (13.7 degrees Celsius), Secunderabad (14.4 degrees Celsius), Saroornagar (14.8 degrees Celsius), and Hyderabad in general at 15.5 degrees Celsius.

IMD noted in its main weather observations that the minimum temperature departure on Wednesday was significantly below normal (-3.1°C to -5.1°C) in a few places across the State.

Nights in Hyderabad to Get Colder as Winter Sets In

Adilabad, Jagtial, Kamareddy, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Medak, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Ranga Reddy, Sangareddy, Siddipet, Vikarabad, and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri districts have been issued a yellow-coded warning for Thursday.

According to IMD, the minimum temperature in these districts could touch 11 degrees Celsius over the next three to four days.

Last month was the coldest October in a decade for Hyderabad, with temperatures dropping to 14.9 degrees Celsius.

Rajendranagar has had the lowest temperature in the city this month. The cold weather was caused by northerly winds and the passage of cyclone Sitrang. In December, the minimum temperature in Hyderabad usually drops significantly.
