No Work for Handloom workers in Hyd, forced to return back

Hyderabad: No work and unable to pay the rent, numerous handloom workers who were in the Hyderabad, returned to their native places. Thanks to the Covid19 Situation. Several workers were jobless and in the catch22 position.

A large number of Handloom workers worked in pre lockdown period at L.B Nagar, Hayat Nagar, Pedda Amberpet areas of State Capital Hyderabad however due to the difficulties in getting the job work they forced to return and all the lanes which were full of the activities earlier are looking empty as the sheds of the Handlooms are deserted look. They were Struggling for their bread and butter, however, hardship became their destiny. Due to hardships many of them forced to return.

Every year lot of exercise was witnessed in streets, lanes, byroads of these areas in the June, and every worker works of approximately 3000 to 3500 rupees, however, the scene is reverse this year owing to Corona Pandemic.

They expect to restore the activities post lockdown period however they disgruntled as the Colour boxes and other materials uses for the making of the sarees were not available.

One of the handloom workers shares “ We were in a cumbersome state of affairs due to the epidemic and many of the workers who are engaged in the activities in Hyderabad returned to their villages as they are not getting the work also, not able to maintain our Handloom sheds and the head of the sheds were not in a position to pay the wages to the daily workers.”

Another worker recounts “ Due to non-availability of the work we forced to starve for about 4 months. The conditions are so bad that we were even not able to maintain our sheds as well. Many of the handloom workers become jobless and looking for an alternative or odd jobs to feed their family”.
