Online classes for all schools, college to begin from September 1st : Telangana government

Amid uncertainties revolving around the reopening of government schools and other educational institutions in Telangana due to the coronavirus pandemic, the state government has issued orders pertaining to the matter.

The GO states the permission of the Telangana government to all schools, colleges, educational centres, etcetera to commence online classes from 1st September 2020, although the grades haven’t been mentioned. Along with this, it also ordered for the kick start of the admission process for aspiring students.

With the start of distance education and e-learning classes, all the teachers are said to be required to attend their workplaces every day, beginning from 27th August 2020, Thursday, in order to tabulate the lessons and other materials necessary, ahead of the virtual classes.

As far as the physical classes are concerned, the notice states the regular school classes are halted until the Central government issues guidelines concerning the reopening for the same. Till the time an appropriate decision is taken, all schools, colleges, educational and coaching centres will continue to be closed physically.

The decision comes after the Council of Ministers held a meeting on 5th August 2020 and discussed the reopening of these schools and colleges.

The Order further directed ‘Telangana State’s Director of School Education’ to prepare a thorough section of guidelines regarding the functioning of the new regime following the fresh schedule put forth by the SCERT.

While states are contemplating the reopening of schools, at least through the medium of internet, the country’s future bright minds are in a rage over the government’s decision to conduct NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) and JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) along with the compartment examinations for CBSE’s classes 10 and 12 amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

Students are demanding the postponement of the exams to a time when the normalcy is restored as many claims that five to seven hours of writing exams wearing the masks could be extremely uncomfortable, distracting and stopping them from concentrating. Other students complained that as their native hometowns where they are currently residing are over 200 km away from their exam centres, it is almost impossible to reach the venue at 7 am while some others say that their parents have co-morbidities and may have to be exposed to the virus due to them. Many opposition leaders along with AIMIM chief, Asaduddin Owaisi joined the cry of the students in persuading the government to push back the dates.

The decision puts a stop to several rumours that mentioned a phased start of regular classes.
