Osmania University Sees Significant Improvement in NIRF 2024 Rankings

In the recently released National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024 rankings, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras retained its top position for the sixth consecutive year. The rankings, unveiled by Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan, highlighted IIT Madras’s continued excellence in higher education across India. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, was named the best university for the ninth year in a row, reaffirming its status as a leading institution in the country.

In Telangana, the Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IITH) performed notably, securing the third rank in the innovation category. However, it ranked 14th overall, maintaining its position among the top institutions in the country. IITH also held its eighth rank in the engineering category, consistent with its 2023 ranking.

The National Institute of Technology, Warangal (NIT Warangal) achieved the 21st rank in the engineering category, while the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIITH) was placed at 55th, and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) at 83rd.

The University of Hyderabad, one of the prominent universities in the state, saw a drop in its ranking, slipping from 10th in 2023 to 17th in the universities category. In the engineering colleges category, the University of Hyderabad ranked 71st.

Osmania University showed significant improvement, rising to sixth place among state public universities from its 36th rank in 2023. This marked a notable advancement in its overall performance. In the law discipline, the National Law School of India University, Bengaluru retained its top position, followed by NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, which held onto its third spot. In the pharmacy category, the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Hyderabad, slipped to the second rank, with BITS Pilani securing the third position.

The NIRF 2024 rankings continue the practice of offering a comprehensive ‘overall’ rank while also providing specific rankings in various categories including universities, research institutions, degree colleges, and innovation. Additionally, discipline-specific rankings were released in fields such as engineering, management, pharmacy, law, medical, dental, architecture and planning, and agriculture and allied sectors.

These rankings play a crucial role in guiding students and stakeholders in making informed decisions regarding higher education institutions across India.
