Over 1.50 lakh voters died during pandemic in Gujarat: Explained

Questions have frequently been raised regarding the actual number of deaths during the covid pandemic in the year 2020 and 2021 in Gujarat but no straight dope has been given neither by the state nor the central government. Now, it has come to light that over 1.50 Lakh people have lost their lives during the two consecutive years after 2019.

This has been revealed in new electoral rolls being prepared and released on the occasion of ongoing general elections in Gujarat. According to the new electoral rolls, a total number of 1,50,962 voter names have been excluded from the list.

Voter names have been excluded under various categories that include voters having died, transferred to other locations, having name more than one location, missing and ineligible voters whose names were excluded from the list.

EXCLUSION OF VOTER NAMES DUE TO DEATH

During a scritiny conducted this year, it was found that the exclusion of voter names has been made due to no other reason but due to the deaths and the number of such voters is atleast three times higher than the general exclusion reported every year. According to the new electoral rolls, a total number of 1,50,962 voter names have been excluded from the list due to their death.

VOTES FOUND DECREASED IN EVERY DISTRICT

Out of all the 33 districts of Gujarat, Ahmedabad alone accounts for 9547 exclusion of names while Mahisagar stands at last with the least number of 1736 exclusions. Surprisingly, every district has more exclusions than the year 2019.

COROVA, THE ULTIMATE REASON OF VOTER’S DEATH?

It is not necessary to say that the coronavirus is the ultimate reason for voters’ death that happened during the two consecutive years after the pandemic. There may be other reasons too. However, the significant number of exclusions explained that coronavirus may be the causative factor for their deaths.

BELOW DATA HELP ESTABLISH ACTUAL DEATH RATE

For example, a total number of 4096 names were excluded from the voter list of five seats in Junagadh district as a result of voters’ death while the exclusion number was just 1231 during the year 2019. This means the number of deaths has increased to three fold. During this period the unusual deaths happened only due to coronavirus.

Though the government did not release or reveal an actual number of deaths that occurred during the coronavirus pandemic, the electoral rolls can help us ascertain and establish an actual figure.
