Over 19,000 Playgrounds to Come up in Telangana

Sports and games, which had taken a back seat in colleges and schools as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, are gradually making their way back into the lives of the youth, with the State government establishing playgrounds in rural and urban areas.

With an eye on the mental well-being of the young, the government is heavily promoting sports among students for their overall development. As a result, 19,472 playgrounds are being built in both rural and urban areas.

The project is being carried out under the Palle Pragathi initiative of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. Already, 5,602 playgrounds have been built, with another 7,787 under construction.

Sites have been identified for 13,418 of the 19,472 playgrounds that are to be built. Of these, 10,451 are being built within gram panchayat limits.

The goal is to encourage youth to pursue sports as a career and to represent Telangana in various state and national competitions.

The state government hopes that the playgrounds will help Telangana produce the best players at the national and international levels.

As part of the state government’s policy to provide good opportunities for rural athletes, the Rural Development Program has undertaken a massive program of establishing a sports field for every residential area.

Students and children are making the most of the facilities, playing Kho-Kho, Kabbadi, volleyball, and long jump, according to officials, who added that exercise equipment is being installed in the playgrounds.

The government intends to build one playground in each habitat in rural areas. Similarly, in urban areas, one playground is being built in each division of a city and one in each ward of a town. Measures are also being taken to ensure that the grounds in rural areas are at least an acre in size.
