Over Rs 1 Crore to Be Spent on Khairatabad’s Eco-Friendly Ganesh Idol This Year

With over Rs one crore spent on its preparation, the city’s Khairatabad Ganesh is set to become the tallest eco-friendly idol in the country. The committee in charge of the idol’s installation has decided to use a clay Ganesh (Eco-friendly) idol rather than a POP (Plaster of Paris) one.

The Khairatabad Ganesh idol in Hyderabad is famous for its height, and as many as 150 artists work on it. Paint colors have also begun to arrive from five different states, and artists from Chennai have arrived in the city to work with clay

The colors for the Ganesh idol have been brought from the states of Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Kolkata, Maharastra, and Andhra Pradesh, according to the organizers.

A devotee, Naresh, said that every year, POP Ganesh idols are formed, but this year, clay Ganesh idols are being created, and it is great that we are encouraging eco-friendly Ganesh idols.  The Ganesh idol has been in place in Khairatabad for decades. Clay artists have traveled from Chennai. 50 to 100 people from various states are working on this idol here.

Every year, we come to see the preparation of the Khairatabad Ganesh idol here, said another devotee. Many people will come to see Hyderabad’s largest Ganesh idol.

Meanwhile, Raj Kumar, the organizer of the Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav committee, stated that Shakeriah Ji began installing the Ganesh idol in Khairthabad in 1954. He went on to say that the committee raised the idol’s height by one foot every year after that.

However, after 60 years, the organizers made the decision in 2015 to reduce the height of the idol every year from then on, but due to popular demand from devotees who highlighted that the height of the idol was what made the Khairatabad Ganesh unique, the idea of height reduction was abandoned.
