Owaisi’s offensive remarks led to BJP’s landslide win in Hyderabad: Congress

Hyderabad: Congress party spokesperson G. Niranjan today said that the provocative speeches made by MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi about former PM PV Narasimha Rao and former CM of AP NTR led to the victory of rival BJP in the recent GHMC elections and helped it win 48 divisions. He alleged that Akbaruddin made similar comments during the 2016 GHMC elections.

He also alleged that BJP leaders like JP Nadda and Amit Shah’s visit to the old city and the BhagyaLaxmi temple also led to the polarization of votes and helped the saffron party. He said that MIM leaders were responsible for bringing publicity to the BhagyaLaxmi temple.

He alleged that Akbaruddin had hurt the religious feelings of Hindus by terming the BhagyaLaxmi temple as a blot on the historic Charminar and tried to prevent the celebrations of Diwali festival in the area.

He recalled that the then CM of the state N. Kiran Kumar Reddy allowed the celebrations. He said that the preference of the ruling the TRS party by Muslims and Christians to defeat the BJP had helped the pink party to win a majority number of seats in the corporation and added that the ruling party would not have got more than 30 seats had the Muslims and the Christians deserted them.
