Pakistan to recognize Taliban regime after regional consensus

In the latest update, Pakistan will recognize the Taliban regime in Afghanistan when there is an agreement, especially of provincial nations, on the issue, Dawn news cited Munir Akram, Islamabad’s UN envoy, as saying.

The subject of acknowledgment reemerged on Thursday when the UN Security Council casted a ballot to lay out proper binds with the Taliban-drove Afghan government without stretching out conciliatory acknowledgment to the regime. Fourteen of the Council’s 15 individuals decided in favor of the goal, while Russia avoided.

Russian Ambassador Vassily A. Nebenzia said he was constrained to avoid on the grounds that endeavors to get assent from the host country for an UN presence were overlooked.

Chinese Ambassador Zhang Jun said that since August 2021 when the Taliban caught Kabul, Afghanistan had entered another stage and greater adaptability was expected to manage what is happening.

Despite the fact that Pakistan was the primary country to call for greater adaptability in managing Kabul’s new rulers, Islamabad also has not perceived the Taliban regime, Dawn revealed.

Inquired as to whether the UN vote would impact Pakistan’s situation on this issue, Ambassador Akram said: “We will make it happen (acknowledgment) when there’s an agreement, particularly among territorial nations.”

Six of Afghanistan’s nearby neighbors are meeting in China one month from now and this would be one of the top issues on their plan. China, Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan will go to the meeting.

A Taliban representative will likewise take part.

In another update, the UN Security Council on Thursday voted to establish formal ties with the Taliban-run Afghanistan which is yet to get global recognition. The resolution including the formal ties does not include the word “Taliban’ and said that such an action is ‘crucial’ for the peace of the country.
