Petrol price hike: CPI men burn PM’s effigy in city

Hyderabad: Protesting against soaring prices of petrol, diesel and daily goods, the State CPI leaders and activists took out a huge rally and burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Wednesday.

Following the call given by the national CPI, the State unit organized a huge rally under the leadership of city secretary ET Narasimha and party activists and leaders participated in large numbers. The rally started at CPI city office and ended at Narayanaguda Flyover. Later, the protestors burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Modi amidst slogans like — ‘reduce the increased prices of petrol and diesel’, ‘Modi Ko Hatao…Deshko Bachao’, ‘Modi Down… Down’, ‘We will fight till Modi decreases the prices of petrol and diesel’ and so on.

Speaking on the occasion, CPI State secretary Chada Venkat Reddy said the party will continue the agitation till the Modi government reduces the hiked prices of petrol and diesel. Alleging that the Modi government increased prices of petrol and diesel 59 times and collected Rs 2 lakh crore revenue, the CPI leader said the Centre was burdening the common man by increasing the prices of petrol and diesel despite the prices of crude oil at international market was decreasing day after day. He also said the impact of price hike of petroleum products was affecting the transport sector and essential goods. (NSS)
