Pumped-up Jalpally municipality plans water supply to new areas

With the coffer filled with funds, the Jalpally municipality sketched plans to supply tap water to remaining un-served areas by setting up water tanks and extending the existing lines further under Mission Bhagiratha Phase-II. The move comes after the announcement of the fresh release of funds to the tune of Rs.52 crore recently by the Minister for Education P.Sabitha Indra Reddy for the development of infrastructure.

To discuss the plan in length, the officials of the municipality and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) went into huddle recently. During an hour-long meeting, the officials drew out the sketch and unfolded their ideas to discuss the niceties of the proposed plan.

While elucidating the plan, a senior municipality official said, “All the leftover areas with water issues will be covered this time. At least 12 wards, which are not yet covered under Mission Bhagiratha, will witness a network of pipelines that ensures tap water to every household under Mission Bhagiratha Phase-II. Apart from the extended pipelines network, two areas Gudigutta and Yerra Kunta will see water tanks of 60  and 30 ml capacity soon that would ensure adequate drinking water supply to the people living in surrounding colonies. The works are supposed to begin by the end of January 2022.”

Affirming the same an official from HMWSSB said most of the Jalpally municipality area will be covered under the Mission Bhagiratha Phase-II program this time. Apart from water tanks, distribution pipelines works will be extended to un-served areas. This will ensure water supply to all those areas which were not yet privileged. The water tanks at Gudigutta and Yerra Kunta areas will address the water scarcity issue in underprivileged colonies before the onset of summer. The task will be ended by March next year.”

With a population of around 80,374 people (as per the 2011 census), the Jalpally municipality was formed in the year 2016. The municipality consists of five-gram panchayats such as Jallapally, Balapur, Kottapet, and Pahadi Shareef that was subdivided into 28 wards thereby forming a complete urban local body dubbed as ULB. Spread over an area of 30 square kilometers, this densely populated municipality is a home for around 23,961 families.
