Revanth Demands CM KCR to Withdraw Cases Filed Against Farmers

TPCC chief A. Revanth Reddy today wrote an open letter to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and demanded him to withdraw criminal cases filed against the farmers, who have been affected by the Gouravelli irrigation project.

He also demanded that the CM do justice to the farmers before commencing the project works as per the Land Acquisition Act of 2013. He told the CM that the Congress party would fight on behalf of the farmers until justice was done to them.

In his letter, Reddy told the CM that the atrocities being committed by the State government against the farmers had crossed limits. He said leave alone the irrigation of the lands of the farmers, the farmers were filled with tears due to the atrocities of the State government. He said the Gouravelli project, which was started during their party’s rule, now has eight affected villages instead of only one.

He said only Gudatipally village had faced the threat of submergence initially and added that the number had gone up to eight due to the redesigning of the project. He said villages like Tenugupally, Maddelapally, Somajithanda, Chinthal Thanda, Pothapally, Jalubai thanda and Tirumal thanda were now facing the threat of submergence.

Referring to the claims of the CM that an acre of land is being cost ₹20 lakh to ₹30 lakh per acre, he asked the CM as to why he was not paying the same amount of compensation to the farmers of the affected villages of Gouravelli project? He said the officials of the State government were saying that they paid the compensation amount of ₹2.10 lakh per acre to ₹6.90 lakh per acre. He, however, told the CM that a social survey conducted in the area found that not all the affected farmers got the compensation from the State government so far.

He told the Chief Minister that 186 farmers had not yet got the compensation even after eight years of launching the project works. He said the farmers were demanding that the State government pay a compensation amount of ₹8 lakh per acre and added that the farmers were also demanding double-bedroom houses as per the latest Land Acquisition Act.
