Rs859 crore will be spent to construct retaining walls to Nalas; KTR

Municipal and IT Minister KT Rama Rao today said that Rs 859 crore will be spent to construct retaining walls to Nalas to prevent the inundation of nalas in the city.

He laid a foundation stone for a retaining wall at Fever Hospital here with Minister T Srinivas Yadav and others.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the government has taken steps to address the inundation problem in the rainy season in the twin cities and outskirts. All the nalas in the twin cities and outskirts municipalities will get retaining walls for protection from the floods. Last year the people faced inundation problems due to Hussain Sagar Nala overflowing and a 12 km retaining wall will be built by June he said.

As we started construction of flyovers and roads, it was decided to complete the protection or retaining walls with expansion works of nalas will be completed. We reduced the loss of 400 assets to 25 as part of road widening and development of the roads and nalas, he said and sought the cooperation of people.

The GHMC has estimated to cost Rs 68.4 crore for the wall at the fever hospital. Under the Strategic Nala Development program, the retaining walls will be built at the nalas to prevent the submergence of low-lying colonies.

The Minister instructed the officials concerned to coordinate with other departments to complete the works of retaining walls for protection.
