Sabitha Indra Reddy may join TRS

Hyderabad: In more trouble for the Congress in Telangana, its senior leader and legislator Sabitha Indra Reddy may join the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).

A key leader in Ranga Reddy district near Hyderabad, she called on TRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao on Sunday. The meeting took place at the residence of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi.

Sabitha Reddy, who served as Home Minister in Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s cabinet in undivided Andhra Pradesh, put forth the condition that either she or her son P. Karthik Reddy be fielded from Chevella Lok Sabha seat.

Chief Minister and TRS President K. Chandrashekar Rao will take the final decision on her demand.

Reddy was elected from Maheswaram Assembly constituency in the December 7 elections. However, her son had quit the Congress on the poll eve after he was denied ticket from Rajendranagar constituency, which the party had left for its alliance partner, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

The Congress received a series of setbacks last week with three of its MLAs defecting to TRS. The opposition party’s tally in 119-member Assembly has come down to 16.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Saturday had addressed a public meeting in Chevella constituency.

Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, who was elected from Chevella on the TRS ticket in 2014 elections, had joined Congress before Assembly elections.

Rama Rao had also addressed a meeting of TRS workers in the same constituency on Saturday.
