Second phase of Kanti Velugu launched by CM KCR

On Wednesday, the second phase of Kanti Velugu, the world’s largest eye screening program, was launched at Khammam’s newly inaugurated Integrated District Collectorate Complex. From Thursday, mass eye screening camps will be held in all gram panchayats and municipal wards across the state.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao along with his counterparts, Pinarayi Vijayan from Kerala, Arvind Kejriwal from Delhi and Bhagwant Singh Mann from Punjab, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and CPI national general secretary D Raja and other national leaders formally launched the program.

The program, which is said to benefit approximately 1.5 crore people, was explained to the VVIPs through a photo exhibition.

In the presence of these leaders, eye screening tests were performed on six people at the venue’s stalls, following the same model as at the Kanti Velugu camps. Each of these recipients received spectacles from the VVIPS. On the occasion, a coffee table book about Kanti Velugu was also published.

The second phase of the program will last 100 working days and will involve 1,500 medical teams. A total of 1.5 crore people will be screened, and 55 lakh spectacles and medicines will be distributed. The Kanti Velugu camps will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. five days a week.

It was also reported that each camp will be headed by a Medical Officer while eight other healthcare workers including one optometrist, two ANMs, three ASHA workers and 1 DEO will be manning the counters.

Earlier, the Chief Ministers and other leaders attended the inauguration of the newly constructed Integrated District Collectorate Complex of Khammam district near V Venkatayapalem village. Chandrashekhar Rao spoke to the dignitaries about the objective of the Integrated Collectorate Complex and how it brings district administration closer to the people.
