Sunday Funday festivities return to Tank Bund on Aug 14

Tank Bund will host the city’s well-known Sunday Funday 2.0 this weekend, August 14.

On every Sunday evening amid Swatantra Bharatha Vajrotsavalu, celebrating 75 years of India’s Independence, Tank Bund will be traffic-free so that people can enjoy the evening on the banks of the lake.

The event will feature food and shopping stalls and spectacular firework displays, according to MA&UD Telangana’s tweet.

The authorities are making an effort to create a patriotic atmosphere around Tank Bund as we approach the 75th Independence Day

As a result of the rising threat of Omicron, a variant of COVID-19, Sunday-Funday events at the tank bund were canceled in August 2021.

Somesh Kumar, the chief secretary, gave the explanation for the decision to cancel the event: “This is to ensure we don’t engage in any avoidable social activity which can lead to higher exposure & chance of contracting.”

A large number of families came to the landmark to witness the launch of the program on August 29.

K.T. Rama Rao, the Telangana minister for municipal administration and urban development, had instructed the officials to make Tank Bund traffic-free during the evening hours every Sunday in August 2021 in response to suggestions from the public so that people could enjoy the evening on the banks of the lake.

On August 29, the program was introduced, and it quickly gained popularity as plenty of families flocked to the monument.

The addition of activities like arts and crafts and music came later, under the minister’s guidance.

At the famed Charminar, a similar program was also started. Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi requested that the decision be made. “Ek shaam Charminar ke naam” was the event’s name.

The festival used to be held on Sundays from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and included cultural, arts, and crafts activities.
