Surendra Kumar Yadav, Babri Masjid Demolition Case Judge Becomes Deputy Lokayukta of UP

Surendra Kumar Yadav, the former special CBI Judge has been appointed as the Deputy Lokayukta of Uttar Pradesh by Governor Anandiben Patel. He is known for delivering the judgment in the Babri Masjid Demolition Case. He acquitted all the 32 people accused.

Uttar Pradesh Appoints The Third Deputy Lokayukta

As per the latest reports, Surendra Kumar Yadav retired as the district and sessions judge in Lucknow in September 2019. But the Supreme Court gave him extensions to deliver the judgement for the Babri Masjid Demolition Case as he has been hearing the case since 2015. He has also been conducting daily hearings in the case since 2017 as a special judge (Ayodhya Prakaran).

Yadav is a resident of Jaunpur and completed his early schooling from Shahganj Madhyamik School. He passed class 10th from DLW High School, Varanasi. He then went on to complete a pre-university course in BHU and completed a postgraduate course in law.

Surendra Kumar Yadav is the third Deputy Lokyukta of UP and took the oath on Monday in the presence of other senior officers.. The first Deputy Lokayuktas were Shambhu Singh Yadav and was appointed on August 4, 2016. The second was Dinesh Kumar Singh and was appointed on June 6, 2020.

The Lokayukta is a non-political background organisation. It functions as a statutory authority that deals with cases related to corruption, abuse of power by public servants or ministers and government mismanagement. The tenure for the post of Deputy Lokayukta is for eight years.

Surendra Kumar Yadav Gave The Historic Babri Masjid Demolition Case Judgement

Surendra Kumar Yadav was the special CBI Judge during the historic Babri Masjid Demolition Case. He gave the historic judgement in the case and acquitted 32 people linked to the case. The people also included some of the veterans of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP); MM Joshi, Umar Bharti, L.K Advani and Kalyan Singh.

In the verdict, Yadav said that the Babri Masjid Demolition on December 6, 1992, was not a pre-planned event. It was rather a spontaneous act.
