Tamil Nadu Government Seeks Ban on Family Man-2 Series

Mano Thangaraj, Tamil Nadu Minister for Information and Broadcasting recently wrote a letter to the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javedkar. In the letter, he seeked a ban on the screening of the Familyman-2 web series on Amazon Prime.

Tamil Nadu Objects To Familyman-2 Trailer

As per the reports, the government of Tamil Nadu wrote in the letter that the trailer of the series projects the Eelam Tamils in the objectionable light. The letter stated that it not only hurts the sentiments of the Eelam Tamils but also the general feel of the people of Tamil Nadu.

In the letter, Thangaraj said that branding Tamil speaking actress Samantha as a “terrorist” is a direct attack on the Tamil population living across the world. This act won’t be tolerated by anyone. He also said that the series has already evoked widespread opposition from the people of Tamil Nadu as well as from the political parties in the state.

Meanwhile, he pointed out that the Eelam Tamils are already struggling with equality, justice, peace and dignity. Following which Amazon Prime should not have taken up a project/campaign like this against the community.

Political Parties/Leaders Extend Their Support for the Ban

Meanwhile, MDMK leader Vaiko on Sunday also made a similar plea to both Javedkar and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K Stalin. Following which, Naam Tamilar Katchi leader and actor-director Seeman also called for the ban. He said that the trailer portrays the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) as a terrorist organization and the Tamils as “violent people”.

The LTTE was founded by Velupillai Prabhakar in 1976 to create an independent Tamil Eelam out of Sri Lanka. It was later banned in India after the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi in May 1991.
