In all districts but four, paddy procurement will end by June 10, which is close to reaching the target for this season.
For about a week, procurement will be taking place in the districts of Vikarabad, Nagarkurnool, Medchal, and Ranga Reddy. These districts, particularly Vikarabad, are known for late arrivals.
As of Thursday, the Civil Supplies Corporation could purchase 58.68 lakh metric tonnes for Rs 12,064.51 crores as against the proposed procurement of 62.16 lakh metric tonnes. Over 9.64 lakh paddy farmers have benefited from purchases that have so far offered the minimum support price. More than one fourth of the 7034 paddy purchase centers had already closed.
Nalgonda, one of the state’s largest paddy producing districts, procured 6,71,541 tonnes, followed by Nizamabad with 6,26,734 tonnes. With over 3 lakh tonnes realized, the districts of Jagitial (3,83,385 tonnes), Suryapet (3,56,625 tonnes), Kamareddy (3,31,515 tonnes), and Yadadri (3,28,241 tonnes) topped the list.
Year after year, the paddy yields were increasing drastically in the State. In 2014-15, Rs.3392 crore was spent on paddy procurement, which increased to Rs.26,600 crore in the 2020-21 financial year. This substantiates the state’s increased paddy cultivation and yields.
Despite six times increase in paddy procurement over the last nine years, there was only two times rise in the milling capacity in the State. Given this, officials should come up with a plan to complete CMR receipts from millers as soon as possible, the Ministers said.
In addition, officials were directed to intensify vigil at borders and arrest paddy arrivals from other states. Also, existing checkpoints were to be strengthened.
