Telangana: Fuel dealers to boycott purchases from oil companies on May 31

There was a virtual meeting between petrol pump owners from different districts in Telangana to discuss their problems.

In this meeting, it was decided to boycott fuel purchases from oil companies on Tuesday, May 31. As a protest to the Centre’s reduction in excise duty and the shortage of fuel, the decision was taken.

Fuel dealers assured consumers that the boycott would not cause them any inconvenience. In their statement, the dealers made it clear that consumers won’t be faced with any fuel shortages. The all-India associations will also meet soon to take more concrete decisions, sources said.

The Telangana Petrol Dealers Association (TPDA) may boycott the purchase of fuel on May 31 along with petrol dealers in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, and Tamil Nadu, among others.

Due to the fact that fuel sales are calculated on the last day of each month, the decision will affect the government’s and oil companies’ revenue for the current month.

In the meantime, the government is attempting to import cheaper oil from Russia. According to sources in the Finance Ministry, India is exploring the possibility of buying cheaper oil from Russia using the Rupee-Ruble mechanism.

Previously, the government reduced excise duties on petrol and diesel to provide some relief to consumers.

There is a shortage of round-the-clock fuel at many pump owners due to the changes in fuel supply conditions. Approximately half of the pumps have been suffering from irregular run-times for the past month.

In a letter addressed to the oil and gas companies’ coordinator, the national association of pump owners requested that fuel not be rationed. Sources said they are restricting supply due to losses they are suffering.

Agricultural activities are also affected by the fuel shortage since tractors require fuel to operate.
