Telangana: Mulugu district witnesses an increase in malaria, dengue cases

According to the data presented by Mulugu district’s medical and health officials, 62 malaria cases and five cases of dengue have been detected among tribal communities there.

A district government hospital with 100 beds, 15 basic health care facilities, and two community centers are located in the district.

The Gothi Koya tribal people living in Wazeedu, Tupakulagudem, Cherukuru, Penugodium, Mangapet, Tadvai, Venkatapuram, and Govindaraopet in the agency region are suffering because there are no primary health centers in their mandals.

The medical and health department sends patients to the public hospital if their conditions require immediate medical attention.

There have already been 325 medical camps held in flood-affected communities, according to District medical and health officer Dr. Allam Appaiah. COVID-19 testing and treatment are also being done by medical personnel.

“Malaria and dengue cases in flood-affected hamlets in the agency area are treated as soon as they are detected by our teams. Since the monsoon began, we have been conducting medical camps. Door-to-door visits are being made by our teams in villages and in hamlets as well,” the DM&HO said.

Those with fever symptoms are being treated. Malaria and dengue patients are given medical kits with instructions on how to use the medicines if they are infected he added.

The Telangana government has issued an alert warning people to be on the lookout for an increase in seasonal diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, and even Covid-19.

T Harish Rao, State Health Minister, warned people on Monday about the possibility of an increase in cases of malaria, dengue, and Covid-19 infections in the coming weeks, and urged families to take precautionary measures on an individual level.

Harish Rao also urged senior district officials to ensure that the quality of mid-day meals served in government residential welfare schools is kept up during the current phase of seasonal diseases.
