Telangana Power Employees Protest Adani Group’s Bill Collection Decision

The Telangana government’s move to hand over electricity bill collection to the Adani Group has faced strong opposition from power utility employees. Demonstrations outside the TGSPDCL head office protested the decision, led by the Joint Action Committee of Electricity Employees representing over 55,000 workers.

They demanded transparency in the agreement with Adani, expressing concerns over its impact on the state’s citizens and threatening statewide protests if the decision persists.

Critics have challenged the government’s claim of Rs. 500 crore in annual losses from unpaid bills, advocating inclusive stakeholder engagement for effective solutions instead of privatization.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Congress leaders protested against Adani Electricity in Mumbai, drawing criticism from Telangana’s BRS working president KT Rama Rao for perceived inconsistencies in the Congress stance on Adani’s involvement across states.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy disclosed plans to involve Adani Group in Hyderabad’s Old City during a Delhi media briefing, supported by high-level Cabinet discussions.

Adani’s corporate team has reportedly assessed local power supply issues for months, raising questions about the selection process and revealing divisions among Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, regarding Adani’s role in public services.
