Telangana praised by Centre for geotagging, other states encouraged to follow

The Central Government has praised Telangana’s geo-tagging system for houses. The Union Urban Development Department has advised other states in the country to adopt Telangana’s draft system.

In this regard, the Union Urban Development Department hosted an online conference with top officials from the state municipal administrations. Speaking on the occasion, CDMA office bearer Satyanarayana shared information about the Telangana Municipal Administration Department’s geo-tagging system, which is being implemented through the Bhavan app in the state’s cities and towns.

Officials from various states have sought more information by questioning the system’s implementation. While praising the system, the Centre advised other states to emulate it and seek technical assistance from Telangana if necessary.

The Telangana Municipal Administration Department has launched a survey of houses in the state for the first time in the country, with implementation beginning in the financial year 2020-21.

The National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA) has created a special app to ensure the successful implementation of this new system. This app determines taxes by measuring specifics. In cities and towns, bill collectors visit homes and upload a photo of the house, along with the house number and dimensions, to the app. If any construction has been done without permission, such as adding floors or rooms, the App will reveal the illegal construction and tax will be collected accordingly.

In the state, details and photographs of 17.50 lakh houses have been registered so far. Through the Geo tagging system, the Telangana Municipal Department has generated an additional Rs 110 crore in revenue without raising taxes.
