Telangana SEC Mandates Covid 19 Guidelines For Voting in Seven SLBs

With the rising cases of Covid 19 cases especially after the voting procedures in some of the states, in Telangana, the experience has turned out to be different. As per the latest reports, the polling underway in seven urban local bodies in Telangana on Friday.

State Election Commission of Telangana Takes Multiple Steps To Follow Covid Guidelines 

Reports suggest that the Telangana High Court directed the State Election Commission (SEC) has taken various steps to ensure that the Covid 19 guidelines are followed throughout the process.

Voters came forward to vote their votes in Greater Warangal and Khammam municipal corporations and five municipalities. The municipalities include Jadcherla, Siddipet, Nakrekal, and Atchampet Kothur. The polling was also being conducted for the by-election in four wards in four municipalities and one ward in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

The polling started at 7 am and will continue till 5 pm.

As per the data so far, 13.37 percent of the voters came out to cast their votes in the first two hours of the polling. At the same time, Kothur municipality recorded the highest turnout of 19.22 percent of the voters. Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation and Achampet had only 11 percent.

A total of 11,59,112 voters including 5,84,963 women are eligible to cast their votes in these elections.

As many as 1,307 candidates including 480 independents are contesting elections in two corporations and five municipalities. Fourteen candidates are contesting elections in four wards while five candidates are in the Lingojiguda ward in GHMC.

For the smooth conduction of the elections, the polling authorities have set up 1539 polling stations and have further deployed 9809 polling personnel.

State Election Commissioner Review Poll Arrangements Before Voting Begins 

After the high court directed for the elections to be not yet another “super spreader” incident, C. Parthsarathi State Election Commissioner reviewed the poll arrangements on Thursday. He instructed the personnel to monitor the elections closely and follow the guidelines issued by the SEC regarding the Covid 19 safety during the elections.

For the voters to cast their votes, wearing a face mask is mandatory. The authorities have also made arrangements to ensure that social distancing is maintained throughout the procedure. Sanitizers have also been put at the entry of the voting station.
