Telangana to be BJP’s next focus with the end of Gujarat polls

With the Gujarat Assembly elections coming to an end, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is turning its attention to Telangana in preparation for the elections next year.

As part of its preparations, the saffron party intends to use its top leadership to boost its prospects in the state.

On December 16, BJP National President J.P. Nadda will visit Telangana to address a public meeting marking the culmination of the fifth phase of BJP state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s ‘Praja Sangram Yatra.’

Nadda will speak at a meeting in Karimnagar, the Lok Sabha constituency represented by Bandi Sanjay.

With Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) legislator K. Kavitha’s name appearing in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe into the Delhi liquor policy scam and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) also serving her notice in connection with the same case, the BJP appears to be stepping up its attack on the TRS at home.

According to political observers, the TRS is already rattled by a series of searches by central agencies against Telangana ministers, MPs, MLAs, and other leaders in various cases, and the BJP may try to exploit the situation politically.

Nadda has previously described the KCR government as the most corrupt in the country during speeches at public meetings. The latest developments are likely to give BJP leaders more ammunition in their attacks on the TRS.

Though the BJP failed to win the Munugode Assembly seat by-election, party leaders believe that the investigation by various agencies into the acts of omissions and commissions by ruling party leaders will help sharpen their attacks on the ruling party in the run-up to the Assembly polls.

The BJP was looking to complete a hat-trick in Munugode after winning the Dubbak and Huzurabad Assembly seats, but the TRS foiled its plans by winning the bitterly contested bypoll.

However, a series of raids by agencies such as the ED, CBI, and IT on top TRS leaders have helped the saffron party sharpen their attack.

Point of no escape appears to have arrived for BJP in poaching case

The TRS leaders see the raids as a response to the arrest of three alleged BJP agents in October while they were attempting to lure four TRS MLAs to defect to the BJP with large sums of money.

When the names of BJP General Secretary B. L. Santhosh and two others came up during the investigation, the state police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) not only summoned them for questioning but also included them in the case as accused.

The state’s investigation into the poaching of MLAs, as well as the raids by central agencies, have already sparked political tension in the state.

The BJP state president’s current padyatra, as well as Nadda’s public address on December 16, are likely to add fuel to the fire.

The fifth phase of the padyatra began last week, with the government denying permission for its launch from Bhainsa town in the Nirmal district.

The police denied permission for the launch of the padyatra from Bhainsa, as well as the public meeting to be addressed by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, citing concerns about a breach of peace in the communally sensitive town.

The Telangana High Court granted conditional permission for the padyatra in response to a petition filed by the BJP challenging the police action.

Bandi Sanjay’s tone and tenor during the speeches indicate that the BJP is going all out to achieve Mission 2023.

On Monday, Bandi Sanjay, whose walkathon was in its eighth day, described himself as a “psycho” who “works for the poor, protects Hindu Dharma and Hindu brothers.”

He criticized the TRS government, questioning the allocation of “40%” of 2BHK houses to a specific community and asking where the majority 80 percent Hindu population should go.

“BJP will bring bulldozers to Telangana, once we come to power,” he said.

Attacking KCR and Kavitha, the BJP leader remarked that both father and daughter were crying after CBI issued notices to her in the Delhi liquor scam.

“KCR, no one can save you. We will send your corrupt family to jail,” he said.
