Telangana will continue to experience heatwave conditions for next five days: IMD

During a heatwave that is persisting across the country, the India Meteorological Department is forecasting that similar conditions will continue to occur for the next five days in the northern parts of Telangana.

A Sravani, Scientist C Incharge, IMD Hyderabad, told ANI on Friday that heatwave conditions are likely to persist in northern parts of Telangana over the coming five days, while a few parts of southern Telangana are likely to receive rainfall in the coming days.

In the past 24 hours, temperatures have definitely risen in the northern parts of Telangana. Adilabad recorded 44 degrees Celsius, Nizamabad recorded 43 degrees Celsius, and Ramagundam recorded 43 degrees Celsius, he said.

According to him, rainfall is likely in southern parts of Telangana, particularly in Hyderabad and its surroundings, where areas can receive 2 centimetres of rain.

Temperatures in the city continued to soar on Friday as the sweltering sun made it almost impossible to go outside.

Although the temperatures had dropped a bit following Thursday night’s summer showers, they soared right back up from Friday morning, with the heat keeping people on tenterhooks since 11.30 am.

A heatwave occurs when the maximum temperature is at least 4.5 degrees Celsius above normal and over 40 degrees Celsius. According to the IMD, a heatwave is classified as severe if temperatures depart from normal by more than 6.4 degrees.

A severe heatwave has caused harsh weather conditions in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Odisha, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh, to name a few.

Several health issues have been triggered by the scorching heat, and crops are also under threat. A surge in energy demand has triggered the worst crisis in six years, causing many parts of the country to experience prolonged power outages.
