A tragic incident occurred in Madapura village, Savanur taluk, Haveri district, where three members of a family, including two young children, were killed and three others injured when the roof of their house collapsed after heavy rains.
The victims have been identified as Chennamma, aged 38, and twin sisters Anushree and Amulya, both just two years old. The collapse happened early Friday morning while the family was sleeping in their ‘kutcha’ house, which had been battered by continuous rainfall since the previous evening.
The affected family consisted of Muttappa Harakuni (35), his wife Sunita (30), his mother Yallamma (70), and the deceased Chennamma and her twin daughters. According to local police, the heavy rains caused the roof to give way, leading to the fatal collapse.

Haveri Superintendent of Police Anshu Kumar reported that Muttappa, his wife, and his mother were rescued and are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
Former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who also serves as the Lok Sabha member from Haveri, has called on the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to provide appropriate compensation for the affected family. Bommai expressed his sorrow over the incident and urged the state government to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured.
“As a result of the continuous rains in Haveri district, it is heartbreaking to hear about the deaths of three people, including two children, due to the roof collapse in Madapura village. The state government should offer proper treatment to the injured and support the family affected by this disaster,” Bommai said.
