Tourism to be promoted at Telangana reservoirs: Srinivas Goud

Srinivas Goud, Telangana’s Minister for Tourism, stated that the state government is working to enhance the number of tourist spots in the state.

In response to a query on turning irrigation projects into tourist destinations, the Minister stated, The Sarla Sagar and Koyal Sagar projects would be transformed into tourism destinations, as is the case in other countries.

After receiving consent from the Central government, the state administration has proposed initiating tourist activities in the Koyal Sagar area with a budget of Rs. 8.30 crore. Aside from this project, there are plans to develop the adjacent areas, he explained.

According to the tourism minister, Telangana has an extraordinary heritage, with several historical landmarks attracting tourists. There are also numerous opportunities for developing water reservoirs and woodland areas as tourism sites.

Tourism has surged by 14.69% since the creation of Telangana. Previously, 70 lakh visitors visited Telangana, but following the formation of Telangana state, around 3 crore tourists visited the state prior to the coronavirus pandemic, Gaud explained.

The freshly constructed water reservoirs will be advertised as tourism attractions. Boating in Koyal Sagar will begin on March 17. Modern houses will be constructed near the Somasila water reservoir. The reservation must be made at least a month in advance, the Minister stated.

Hollywood shoots to take place in Telangana

According to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Telangana would soon become a destination for Hollywood filming. Addressing a conference of elected representatives after dedicating Telangana’s largest reservoir, Mallanna Sagar, to the people, the chief minister stated that Annapurna, Kondapochamma, and Basawapuram reservoirs had enormous tourism potential. Local beautiful sites, such as small islands and forest cover, are ideal for filming.

The entire reservoir area will be transformed into the ideal filming location for Hollywood and Bollywood blockbusters, he stated. KCR approved a Rs 1,500 crore allocation to establish tourism centres near reservoirs at international standards. The Chief Minister has proposed building world-class colour fountains at the reservoirs, comparable to Singapore and the Burj Khalifa.
