TRS Govt pushed jobless youth into depression: Congress

Former Minister Mohammed Ali Shabbir has accused Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao of ruining the lives and careers of lakhs of jobless youth in the State.

He was addressing a public meeting in Thummadam village of Nidamanoor mandal as part of the campaign for Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly by-elections on Saturday. Congress candidate and ex-Leader of Opposition K. Jana Reddy, TPCC President N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, and other senior leaders also addressed the meeting.

Speaking about the suicide by unemployed youth Sunil Naik, Shabbir Ali said that the wrong policies of the TRS Government have pushed jobless youth into depression with some resorting to the extreme steps. He said Telangana became a reality due to the sacrifices made by the youth and students. Congress president and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi granted statehood for Telangana as she wanted to stop the youth from taking their own lives. Sonia Gandhi wanted the youth to have a good future, jobs, and control over all the resources of Telangana. However, he said CM KCR has encroached upon all the resources of Telangana and started treating the State as his personal ‘jagir’ (fiefdom). Stating that CM KCR has appointed his 40 relatives including son, daughter, son-in-law, and nephew on various posts, he referred to them as ‘Ali Baba, Chalis Chor’.

Shabbir recalled the crucial role played by Jana Reddy in the formation of Telangana. “Jana Reddy was offered the post of Chief Minister in undivided Andhra Pradesh. He not only refused the offer but pressurized the Congress-led UPA Government to grant statehood for Telangana. Meanwhile, he ensured that the Telangana agitation does not slow down. He was instrumental in the formation of the Joint Action Committee and kept it non-political so as to involve all sections of the society in statehood agitation. Without Jana Reddy’s role, we cannot imagine JAC or even the formation of Telangana,” he said.

The former minister ridiculed TRS leaders for alleging that Jana Reddy did not bring development in Nagarjuna Sagar. “It is ridiculous that leaders like Home Minister Mahmood Ali, who never contested or won a councilor election, are questioning Jana Reddy on development. It is not a joke to get re-elected from a constituency for seven terms. Whatever development exists in Nagarjuna Sagar today was solely due to Jana Reddy and people of this constituency have endorsed it repeatedly,” he said.

He said that the TRS ministers and leaders campaigning in Nagarjuna Sagar by-elections should not ask questions, but they should come with answers like the deadline by which TRS Govt would fill all 1.91 lakh vacancies in government departments. He exhorted the youth to question TRS on non-fulfillment of the promise of giving an unemployment allowance of Rs. 3,016 even after two-and-a-half years of the second term. He said that the TRS Govt has been deliberately delaying the recruitment process so as to deprive the youth who participated in Telangana agitation of getting a government job. He appealed to the people not to get misled by the fake promises of CM KCR. “The Chief Minister got habituated of making tall promises before elections and he forgets the same once the results of the election are announced,” he said.

Ali appealed to the people to ensure the victory of Jana Reddy in the by-elections with a majority of not less than 50,000 votes.

Earlier in the day, hundreds of local minority youth joined the Congress party at a function held at ITI College, Haliya Town of Nalgonda district in the presence of an ex-CLP leader and Congress candidate Jana Reddy and other senior leaders. Speaking on the occasion, Shabbir Ali said that the minorities of Telangana have now realized that the TRS was a B-Team of BJP, and CM KCR has been acting as an agent of RSS. He said not a single youth from Nagarjuna Sagar got a single rupee loan from the Minorities Finance Corporation in the last seven years of TRS rule.
